John,

Can you please add myself and Judy. We are happy to stay in the backpackers
accom.

And just to advise, I have not had a chance to work on the Sunseeker movie
at all this last week due pressure of work and will be going to Noosa for a
week next week but will get back into it after that. The final editing has
been done and most sound tracks sorted it is just a matter of marrying the
two and doing titles etc.

Tim,

John & Lynn Lowrey are now on the list as possible attendees so we now have
19 firm bookings (of which 8 paid) plus four "possibles" for a grand total
of up to 23 aircraft and 43 people.

We have rooms for everyone (and may be able to accept a few more bookings)
but later bookings will be in their budget accommodation - Greenwood Lodge.
We took a look at it last weekend and would describe it as small and a bit
tired but clean and tidy with private facilities. While the remaining
accommodation has individual split system aircon, Greenwood Lodge has a
central aircon unit that is either on for everyone or off. Overall we
thought it quite OK and Arkaroola are prepared to offer it at quite a
substantial discount to the price for the other accommodation. I will be
able to offer a rebate of around $100 per person off the package for anyone
who takes one of these rooms. At that rate, we might well take one
ourselves!.

So, I think we have a quorum for the AGM. For those who've not yet paid,
please remember that payment at the discount rate is due by 31 Jan 2008.

Regards

John Hillard

This sounds very interesting John, look forward to attending talk. I also
have been trained to use 50 ROP and am reluctant to change this until I get
an argument that will convince me otherwise.

Be interested to talk to him ref Whyalla Chieftain accident. Personally I do
not believe it was near simultaneous engine failure. After operating a fleet
of Chieftains for a number of years I simply do not believe the inquiries
finding in this case.

How many people and Mooneys do you have attending the Flinders Fly In now ?
Think it may eclipse SinSeeker, hope so :-) Are there any more vacancies
still available ?

Best wishes T i m Hamilton.

Folks,

We were in Arkaroola last weekend taking a look at the "budget"
accommodation. All good news and I will advise you of the results by
separate email. But I ended up talking to Doug Sprigg about airplanes (as
one does) and found that one of his other interests is engine operations and
in particular LOP operations. It appears that he was an expert witness on
the topic at the inquest into the Whyalla accident and is a good mate of
Walter Atkinson and George Braly. He was involved in organising the course
that Walter recently ran for the Mooney people and had Walter to stay at
Arkaroola. Doug has kindly agreed to give us a talk during the Mooney flyin
on the subject of engine operations and LOP. All part of the package - no
extra charge!.

He has now got me all fired up to look at LOP operations in my MSE. Is
there anyone out there that is successfully doing it with a four pot mooney
and does it require GAMI injectors or not. I have been trained to 50deg ROP
so I'm going to take this very carefully.

Having heard part of the discussion with Doug, Rosemary was singularly
unimpressed at the idea of hearing any more so she will contact the flying
partners to organise alternative entertainment for that evening!.

Regards

John Hillard

Hi John,

Thank you for the email and the information on the ASIC alternative. I
enjoyed catching up with you and look forward to your visit in April. I will
be happy talk on what I have learned of engine management and LOP. I won't
be able to do it like Walter, George and John... all three are absolute
masters!

All the best,

Doug Sprigg.

Doug,

When we spoke on the weekend I referred to Ian Baker at Merimbula who I
understand provides a much better way of renewing ASICs than via CASA (see
report from happy customer below). His email address is :

http://www.aviationidaustralia.net.au/

I also had cause to email Walter (advice on whether autolite plugs are as
good as champion - he has no reason to think otherwise) and mentioned that
I'd met up with you. He was clearly very impressed with Arkaroola and in
particular its dryness. I told him that I didn't think there had been much
rain since his visit.

Many thanks for agreeing to talk to us about LOP next April. Look forward
to seeing you then if not before.

Best regards

John Hillard

Hi Guys,

Following the recent discussion about ASIC renewals I thought I would let
you know that I received a reminder letter from Aviation Id Australia giving
me a bout 6 weeks notice that my ASIC was about to expire.

The letter also included a PIN that allowed the application to be begun
on-line, though photos and document copies still have to be posted. The
application process went quite smoothly.

My initial application was through Aviation ID Australia. I wonder if it
will work the same for those who originally applied to CASA. I hope so.

Regards,

Brian
