[Oz-mooney] Windshields - Engine Failure

And if your windscreen is scratched, you could try the German manufactured
Xerapol plastic polish:

Easy to use and gives great results: needs multiple applications, lots of
elbow grease and patience. For deep scratches they supply 1600 grade
abrasive paper which you may use first. Don't even think about using this
without prior testing on something other than an aircraft.

For serious restorers and optimists there is a product called Micro mesh:
http://www.sisweb.com/micromesh/aircraft_kits.htm
I don't like it at all. The process involves the treatment with multiple
grades of abrasive papers from coarse (so coarse the windscreen becomes
opaque!) to 6000 grade. With the application of each grade of paper you have
to rub at right angles to the previous grade. I saw it used years ago on a
Piper Arrow. A small section was treated which quickly grew "out of control"
as each finer grade of paper had to overlap the previous one.

Now that I've got you interested, I believe polishing perspex with abrasives
is not pilot approved maintenance.

There are some traps that approved persons need to know:
(1) Continued heavy polishing of one area can change the optical
characteristics and create a "lens effect" in the plastic which is
definitely not a good idea.
(2) Some chemicals like Brasso (an old favourite from WW2 days) or Coca Cola
may cause damage to the plastic with unknown consequences.

PS Does anyone know where to buy mouse milk?

Cheers
Peter
